Why cloud training is growing in demand

By Alex Barankevych

Scalability and centralized control of all IT assets are two of the main benefits associated with using the cloud.

While some organizations opt to host applications in public deployments, others choose to reconfigure on-premise data centers as private cloud solutions.
Overall, the majority of companies (74 percent) of enterprises surveyed by Right Scale choose to do both, using hybrid models. This and other type of investments in the technology have convinced many professionals that obtaining cloud certifications is beneficial for their careers as well as the entities they work for.

Enrolling existing staff members in cloud certification programs may not be such a bad idea.
Rachel Wilcox, a contributor to The Register, maintained that both enterprises and public organizations are searching for people with knowledge of cloud infrastructure development and maintenance. Setting up cloud environments requires IT staff members to possess knowledge of the following technologies:
  • Virtualization provides the groundwork for which cloud deployments can be created.
  • Software-defined networking synchronizes virtual machines across a physical environment, allowing them to pool resources, applications, data and so forth.
Overall, cloud deployments supply on-demand service, extensive network access, property aggregation and fast elasticity. Fully comprehending these needs is somewhat of a challenge to those who have not received formal training in cloud computing.
“Everyone is going to the cloud, yet very few people understand its technical nuances, particularly when it comes to a business-critical service,” CompTIA Head of Skills and Certifications Terry Erdle told Wilcox.

Rising demand
Apparently, companies have yet to receive the help they require to either transform their conventional data centers into cloud architectures or manage existing platforms. Wilcox cited a 2012 report released by IDC, which estimated that 7 million cloud-related positions will remain vacant in 2015.
Surprisingly enough, statistics from recruitment website Technojobs would show that certification isn’t a priority for many IT managers. However, it’s important to note that this factor is likely caused by a burgeoning need of anyone knowledgeable of cloud computing. In other words, finding an accredited cloud expert is more a bonus than it is a necessity.
However, Technojobs Managing Director Anthony Sherick noted this may not be case as the years progress.
“I would expect this to evolve as demand and interest in cloud computing continues to grow and employers look for greater differentiation and skill sets in candidates,” Sherick suggested.
In regard to this information, many organizations would benefit from enrolling existing staff in comprehensive cloud implementations courses. If the workforce isn’t available, instruct the one that is.
