Interviewing skills are just as important to acquire as
the knowledge gained from your online course.
While every organization has a unique culture this does not mean that
each company will have their own approach to handling interviews.
For example, one common interview approach is called
behavioural interviewing.
The general premise is that you as the candidate will be
presented with a situtation, which likely will be an actual situation that can
occur within your position, and you will be assessed against four main
elements.
1. Comprehension –
you must be able to articulate and communicate that you understand the context
of the situation and identify what challenges or issues are present. If you require additional clarification then
don’t be afraid to ask the interviewer.
2. Involvement –
you must be able to identify your role in correcting or resolving the situation. Think about how collaboration and leadership
play a role.
3. Results –
the actions that you identified to correct or resolve the situation should be
associated to the end result or outcome.
Were your actions based on meeting the objectives and vision of the company?
4. Insight –
what are the lessons learned or recommendations that you can provided to help
address future instances of the situtation?
There may not always be a single right answer for the
situation that you are presented and the interviewer is assessing your approach
and planning when addressing challenges.
This may also be a means to evaluate your presentation and ability to
communicate key message points.
Remember this interview style as your prepare to evolve
your career!
