Some of your peers have not experienced the dynamics of
group work within their previous educational training. Now that you’re enrolled in a MOOC you will
quickly find out that online discussions and group work are a staple for course
delivery. You may feel at times that
your ideas are not being vetted further and the group is just actioning the
proposal of the most aggressive team member.
Here are some tips on being heard within your group.
Participation –
if you are not an active participant to the team then your team members will
not put as much weight to your discussions, so stay involved and contribute throughout
the entire journey of the course. You
may not have the knowledge to lead a specific task but make yourself available
to support others.
Research –
if you are trying to recommend an option or direction for the team then do not
rely on solely your personal opinion and work to gather supporting evidence to
justify your decision points. Having
additional research available may help to solidify a concept for your team
members and further strengthening your view.
Relevance –
think about real world references to help express your viewpoint in order to
make your opinion more tangible for other team members.
